Pittalis Truffles in Montalcino in the heart of Tuscany
Family Business since 1980
55 acres of natural white truffle woodland, nestled within the family estate in Montalcino.
A story born from the land, shaped by time.
Our story begins with the courage of Emilio, who left his small Sardinian village at just sixteen in search of a new life in Australia. He carried nothing but determination and a dream. After years of working the land and welcoming two children, he and Lidia – his life partner and companion in dreams – returned to Italy with a simple yet powerful vision: to build something of their own on the land they loved. This is how Azienda Agricola Pittalis & Mameli was born, in the heart of Montalcino. Since 1980, this unique place has been lovingly cared for by our family. The white truffle reserve – now the crown jewel of our estate – has always been part of this land. At the time, white truffles were not yet considered the rare and precious delicacy we know today. Back then, the woods mostly served to mark the boundaries of the property, quietly keeping their secret beneath the soil.
The Landscape
Nature here reveals itself gently, between warm nuance and details that speak of serenity. Every element seems to find its place, in a harmony made of light, silence, and time that flows slowly.
The ancient woods of Montalcino
It is in the woods of this land that the white truffle finds it’s ideal habitat. The forests of Montalcino have always been among the richest and most precious natural reserves.
The Territory
The land of Montalcino is a place where natural beauty meets the ancient history of agricultural culture. A landscape that tells the story of the hard work and passion of those who, for centuries, have cultivated the land, shaping it and giving life to one of the most breathtaking panoramas in the world.
The White Truffle
Precious, rare, and impossible to cultivate: the Tuber Magnatum Pico, known as the White Truffle, grows naturally only in specific areas of Italy, including Tuscany. It is the most sought-after truffle in the world for its intense aroma and delicate flavor.
- Harvest season: from the beginning of October to the beginning of January
- Culinary use: strictly raw, to preserve its aroma and flavor
- Color: ochre yellow with hazel pulp and white veins
