Our Estate
Pittalis Family Estate
Located in the municipality of Montalcino, in the heart of Tuscany and the province of Siena, the estate covers 265 hectares of land (i.e. 655 acres), including arable fields and woodlands, and features numerous traditional farmhouses. The property maintains a centuries-old pastoral activity with sheeps, a tradition deeply rooted in the agricultural culture of Sardinia, the family’s region of origin. In 2010, three of the seven farmhouses were restored and transformed into a to Agriturismo Val di Tufo – a place that today welcomes visitors from all over the world.
Story, Territory and Roots
Our story begins in Illorai, a charming village in the heart of Sardinia. Emilio Pittalis, a young man in his teens and the youngest of ten siblings, decided – like many Italians during the fervent 1950s – to emigrate to Australia in search of new opportunities. It is the beginning of an adventure that will profoundly mark his life. In Australia, Emilio dedicates himself to sugar cane and tobacco cultivation for over ten years. But fate had a special meeting in store for him: he married Lidia, also from Illorai. Two children were born of their union and, shortly after the birth of the second, they decided to return to Italy, with the dream of buying a farm in Tuscany.
